Originally constructed in the 1970s as government offices and then subsequently occupied by the local authority, the building is located a short walk from Huddersfield University and the town centre.
Forshaw acquired the building in 2015 with the benefit of an existing consent for 196 student rooms and after re-planning the scheme are now bringing forward proposals for a student accommodation development of 179 studios of exceptional quality.
The development will also include comprehensive communal facilities with gymnasium, cinema, games and common rooms and work rooms for small groups of students to collaborate in a quiet environment.
The development has already been pre-sold to Empiric Student Property plc, a Real Estate Investment Trust, under a forward-funded arrangement and was completed in August 2016 in time for the academic year start . Forshaw will continue to manage and operate the building under the Primo brand on Empiric’s behalf following completion.
